11. What is the contingency approach to organisation? Explain its salient features.

Part A

1. Write a brief note on authority, power and status relationship (organisational relationship)

2. What do you mean by Delegation of authority? As a manager, how will you determine what authority and to what extent it should be delegated? 

3. Explain the sources of authority and discuss the reasons for delegating the authority.

4. What is centralisation and decentralisation? Critically explain in detail. Distinguish between centralisation and decentralisation.

5. Critically discuss the necessity of decentralization of authority in an organisation, so as to make delegation more meaningful and effective.

6. Discuss the type of extent of authorities you would prefer to delegate as a manager.

7. What are the indicators of Power? Discuss the various ways of uses and outcome of Power.

8. When does a bureaucratic organisation suffer from serious problems? Suggest whether it is feasible to design an organisation free from bureaucratic elements.                

9. Describe the important elements of bureaucracy. What are its unintended consequences? How would you reduce these dysfunctions?

10. Explain the term Departmentation. Examine the factors that govern the choice of any particular basis of Departmentation.          

11. Define the term “Span of management”. How would you determine the optimum span in a given situation?
